Roads close, shelters open due to weather-related flooding

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - Officials have opened shelters and announced road closures in areas of South Mississippi that have been heavily affected by severe weather Saturday.

Stone County has a shelter open at the high school Saturday night.

Pearl River County has a shelter in Poplarville at the corner of Highway 26 and Highway 11. The American Red Cross is manning it.

The Pearl River County Emergency Operations Center has also announced the following roads are closed due to weather-related flooding:

  • Shenandoah Road
  • County Farm Road
  • Jess Williams Road
  • McNeal McHenry Road
  • Murder Creek Road
  • Hillsdale Road at Interstate 59
  • Redmond Road at the box culvert
  • Hickory Grove Road at Leetown Road
  • Spring Hill Road at Olive Church Road
  • John Smith Road
  • Catfish Road
  • Homer Ladner Road
  • Burge and Reyer Road
  • Old Camp Road
  • Holden Road
  • Archie Wheat Road
  • Ben Byrd Road at the bridge
  • Roadrunner Road

Officials advise against unnecessary traveling. If you come across a water-covered road, turn around.
