GEORGE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - One person is dead and three others are seriously injured after a crash in George County Friday night.
Chase Elkins with MHP identified the victim as 88-year-old Betty Jean Chestnut from Mobile, AL.
The wreck happened in the eastbound lane of Highway 98 near Moffett Road at 9:15 p.m.
Trooper Chase Elkins said the vehicle Chestnut was driving - a 2012 Lincoln MKT - was traveling west in the eastbound lane of the highway. Her vehicle crashed head-on with a 2009 silver Honda Civic that was driven by a man from Lucedale.
Chestnut was not wearing a seatbelt, said Elkins and was pronounced dead at the scene from injuries received during the crash.
A male passenger who was riding in the front seat of the Honda was flown to USA Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. The man driving the Honda and another male passenger who was riding in the backseat were also taken by ambulance to USA Medical Center with life-threatening injuries. Authorities say all three victims are from Lucedale.
The driver of the Honda and both of his passengers were all wearing seat belts at the time of the crash, said Elkins.
The crash is still under investigation.
