LUMBERTON, MS (WDAM) - We now know the name of the man shot and killed by an officer outside the Lumberton Police Department on Tuesday morning.

Lamar County Coroner Cody Creel said 59-year-old Aubrey Manning, of Lumberton, was killed in the officer-involved shooting. Creel said Manning’s body has been sent to the State Crime Lab in Pearl for an autopsy.

Sheriff Danny Rigel said the incident started around 8 a.m. when officers responded to a call of a person acting erratically and waving a gun outside the police department. Rigel said responding officers ordered Manning to put the weapon down, but he refused.

Rigel said the standoff led to an exchange of gunfire between Manning and an officer, and Manning was fatally shot. No officers were injured during the incident.

The shooting is being investigated by the Lamar County Sheriff’s Office.
