Bay St. Louis man identified as victim in Gulfport shooting
GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - As police continue to ask questions and investigate Wednesday’s deadly shooting, authorities have identified the man who was killed.
Chief Deputy Coroner Brian Switzer confirmed that 20-year-old Delfred Lewis Jr. of Bay St. Louis died at 3:45 p.m. at Memorial Hospital from a single gunshot wound.
Gulfport Police released a statement Thursday morning asking the public for information on the whereabouts of another man who was wanted for questioning.
A Saturday night update from the police said he was no longer wanted in connection to the case and that officers had spoken with the man.
The shooting happened Wednesday just before 3 p.m. on 25th Street near Hewes Avenue. When officers arrived, they found Lewis suffering from a gunshot wound.
This is the fifth murder scene Gulfport investigators have worked since February with a total of six victims.
