BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mother Nature would not rain on the Yellow Jackets and Blue Devils parade Saturday as St.Martin and Pearl River Central both win decisive third round game threes for South State Championship births.
After escaping elimination in game two of their third round series with Oak Grove (22-9), the St. Martin Yellow Jackets (25-7) came out swinging early - doing most of their damage in a 5-run second inning - in a 9-7 game three victory at home over the Warriors. St. Martin move on to face Biloxi (29-3) Thursday (May 9th) at the Indians house for the MHSAA 6A South State title. Time of game to be announced.
The Yellow Jackets weren’t the only ones partying Saturday night.
Pearl River Central (23-11) defended home field in a crucial game 3 against North Pike (16-11) and punched their ticket for the MHSAA 5A South State Championship next week with a 12-7 victory. The Blue Devils are set to face West Jones (25-5) in Laurel Thursday at 6 p.m.
Several coast teams still in contention had to reschedule their playoff games due to inclement weather Saturday.
Game three of the MHSAA 4A third round matchup between Sumrall and St. Stanislaus will be played on Monday (May 6th, 2019) at 6pm in Bay St. Louis.
In softball, Vancleave will look to sweep Newton County in game two of their MHSAA 4A South State Championship series, as it has been postponed until Monday as well with a 5 p.m. first pitch and the same goes for Ocean Springs and Brandon in their MHSAA 6A South State series.
Resurrection and Stringer, however, decided to brave the stormy conditions and play on Saturday, but the game was brought to a hault due to a tornado warning, leaving the game tied 2-2 in the top of the third. The game will resume on Monday at 6 p.m.
