Ocean Springs, Vancleave take home MHSAA Girls Golf State Championships
Hancock’s Katelyn Altese wins 6A Individual State Championship
(WLOX) - Several of our area classifications hit the links over last two days, looking to stake their claim as some of the best golfers that the state of Mississippi has to offer. After 48 hours of intense competition, two South Mississippi high schools marked their names in the history books.
A remarkable two years for Vancleave athletics continue. Thanks to a two-day score of 302, the Lady Bulldogs took home the Girls’ Class II State Championship. Abby Wickham (148) and Maggie Pierce (154) posted big performances at Hillendale Country Club, respectively placing second and third individually.
Congratulations are in order for Ocean Springs as well. The Lady Greyhounds shot a two-day total of 320 to outlast Hancock for the Class 6A State Championship.
However, the Lady Hawks still found plenty of success as Katelyn Altese won the 6A Individual State Championship with a two-round total of 148. Ocean Springs’ Avery Weed placed second, finishing eight strokes back.
