BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - There is a growing sense of anticipation in downtown Biloxi these days. That’s because three properties located within one block of each other are getting ready to open soon.

The properties represent an investment in downtown of more than $100 million. The 100-room Hilton Garden Inn is set to open in early May. The old Santa Maria Del Mar retirement tower is being converted into a watermark all suites hotel, and the new state of the art Waffle House will be opening this Thursday.

This Waffle House is different from all others. It’s elevated and cost $1.7 million to build. That’s the most expensive restaurant in the company’s 64 year history.

With all this development comes new jobs, as well. Some 25 full-time positions at the Hilton, 34 jobs at the Waffle House, and when it opens, maybe around 100 positions at the watermark.

Tourism-related businesses in the downtown area are smiling these days. The prospect of hundreds of new visitors and potential new customers has them ready to roll out the welcome mat.
