BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Coast teams continued to fight on the diamond to keep their seasons alive and have a chance to compete for a state championship on Saturday.
Petal (13-16) held a 9-5 lead after four innings, but Biloxi (27-3) rallied down the stretch, racking up nine runs between the fifth and sixth innings to end the Panthers season and advance to the third round with a 15-11 victory in game two of their 6A second round series. The Indians will face the winner of George County and Brandon at home on Thursday, May 2nd.
Harrison Central (15-13) fell late to Oak Grove (21-7) on Friday and needed a win at home Saturday to force a game three on Monday in Hattiesburg. Despite holding a 3-1 lead after four, the Red Rebels, unfortunately, couldn’t hang on as the Warriors tied in the fifth and scored seven runs in the bottom of the sixth for a 13-4 win, sweeping the Rebels and ending their 2019 season.
In softball, the Ocean Springs Lady Greyhounds and George County Lady Rebels squared off for a “coast versus coast” matchup in Lucedale, MS.
George County was held scoreless on Friday, but came out swinging in game two, cutting the Greyhounds 2-0 lead to one early with a sac fly and force a game three with a 7-3 victory. Ocean Springs would have the last laugh as the Lady Greyhounds won a nail-bitting series finale, 5-4 as they advance to the South State Championship.
