HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Computers at Harrison County’s nine libraries are getting very old. Windows 7 old.

The libraries have an urgent need to replace the 300 computers it now has, so Friends of the Harrison County Library System are throwing a fundraiser to help with the effort Friday .

Last year, the system hosted 180,000 computer sessions that included applying for jobs, doing homework or just browsing the web. More than 500,000 visitors came to the libraries last year.

City and county governments have already put $100,000 toward the project, and $12,500 has already been donated. But the library system still needs another $8,500 for the computers and infrastructure.

“It’s a big project, and so, we’re trying to pitch in to that effort,” said Sarah Crisler-Ruskey, director of the Harrison County Library System. "Our friends are helping us with this fundraiser, so we can make sure that we get out project on schedule.”

The Books, Beer & a Band fundraiser will be Friday from 6:30 p.m. until 9:30 pm in the courtyard outside the Biloxi Library on Howard Avenue.

A $25 ticket will get you a BBQ dinner, music by Kelsey Moran and two beverages.
