BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - At any given moment there are about 760 inmates in the Harrison County Jail in Gulfport. That’s a lot of offenders for officers to watch over. While most don’t attempt escape, the facility has to be secure. After all, jails or detention centers are supposed to keep prisoners locked up and away from the rest of free society.
To that end, new security improvements at the Harrison County Adult Detention Center are welcome. The plan is to spend $2.5 million on a number of items including a new camera system, new fence wire, new computer technology, improvements to the guard towers, and more to help watch over the inmates.
We agree the 30-year-old lock up needs the security upgrades. That’s our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
