PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Moss Point Police Chief Brandon Ashley has released more information surrounding the homicide investigation of Shawn Martin.

Martin’s body was found in a wooded area on Molden Street April 13. We’ve learned the 26-year-old was last seen March 21 at a service station getting an oil change on Highway 613 around 4 p.m. His family reported him missing March 23.

Investigators said Martin’s 2003 GMC Yukon was found March 25 on Monarch Street, near Pearl, one street over from where Martin’s body was later discovered.

Police aren’t releasing a cause of death at this time. They are asking anyone with information on this homicide to give the Moss Point Police Department a call.

Meanwhile, Wednesday night dozens of family members and friends of Martin gathered for a vigil at Beach Park in Pascagoula.

“It’s definitely been a devastating event for us. We definitely have never experienced anything like this. We’re a tight-knit family, and so we’re all still are heart broken over it," said Martin’s cousin April Martin.

“It’s been tragic. It’s hurts me real bad to see it because he was like my son,” added family friend Ashunda Steward. Steward’s son Jamarcus Peairs was Martin’s best friend.

Martin’s only child, 9-year-old Mylayjiyah Shields was also there. She said it’s been hard without her dad, “Sad. Upset and forgiving.”

Nearly two weeks after Martin’s body was discovered, dozens of people who love him are sharing memories and laughing about the good times.

The group lit candles, prayed to bring Shawn’s family peace and then walked across to the beach to release balloons.

Shawn Martin will be laid to rest next month.
