PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) -The eighth annual Eagles Under the Oaks Golf Tournament is a special event held specifically to aid our local military combat veterans as they make the sometimes-difficult transition from military to civilian life.
More specifically, it benefits the Combat Wounded Veterans of South Mississippi, an organization Donna Anderson founded back in 2011.
"If they ended up not being able to work because of their injuries, they had no source of income to take care of their families,” Anderson said. "The processes don't work for them. It takes too long for their claims to be processed sometimes."
On Wednesday, 37 teams of golfers teed it up to add to the $37,000 already raised.
"A majority of the funds are raised by Keesler Federal Credit Union. They’re our number one fundraiser, and we’re thankful for the love they’ve shown our organization,” Anderson added.
They said every little bit helps, and in this case, that help could possibly save the life of a combat veteran.
“A lot of injuries they sustain are injuries you never see, but they affect them in other ways," said George Mitchell, KFCU executive vice president and COO. “That’s where we step in and bridge the gap and help those guys who have these special needs.”
