BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Hundreds of job-seekers turned out Tuesday morning in Biloxi to look for a new career.
The Mississippi Department of Rehabilitation Services EmployAbility Job Fair gave potential employees a chance to showcase their job skills.
Shirley Hardy filled out a job application and says despite her hearing disability, she’s not shying away from finding the career of her dreams.
"I would like to have a job,” Hardy said. “Even though I don’t have a degree, I am willing to learn and I easily catch on. I’m here today to find something I can do and anything I can do, I’m going to apply for it.”
So are hundreds of others, from all facets of life, with all types of disabilities.
"Our counselors from around the state work with these individuals with disabilities to find their career of choice. We have clients with all types of disabilities thriving in the workforce and a lot of those success stories are well documented,” said MDRS Chief of Staff Billy Taylor. “We’ve partnered with about 30 businesses around the Coast to come in today. We brought in a bunch of our clients seeking employment. We’re hoping to link the two together. We tried to get a wide variety of businesses that way the job seekers will have some career choices to make.”
