Long Beach bakery bakes cakes and makes fun for Easter weekend

LONG BEACH, MS (WLOX) - Easter weekend is one of the busiest times for bakeries on the Coast.

One bake shop in Long Beach decided, despite the hectic day before Easter, to add a lot of fun to the already sweet deals.

Most special Easter orders have been pre-made, and this was delivery and pick up day for most bakeries on the Coast.

Falisha Rowell ordered an Easter Bunny cake for her family.

“I am domestically challenged,” she said. “So, I need a little help in that department. So, Dolce is always a great option for that.”

Dolce Bakeshop also was busy making Easter goodies for impromptu shoppers.

“Easter is right up there with the rest of the holidays as far as sales for us,” said co-owner Brooke Rester. “A lot of people have given up sweets for Lent, so by the time Easter rolls around, they’re ready for some sweets.”

Katy Fuller was there just to look, not buy, but things can change when the serious sweets are uncovered.

“No, I wasn’t going to, but then I saw the cute things,” she said. “They had the little chickens on the cupcakes, and this cute little basket. I can’t resist.”

Likewise, Darron Schacherer picked up some cupcakes for Easter treats, but best-laid plans often go awry.

“Well, I was planning to get this for Easter, but looks like I'm going to have to give it to them when I get home because it's not going to last,” he said. “So, it’s not going to wait.”

The Dolce Bakeshop doubled down on its busy Saturday before Easter and turned it into an event - as host for the Easter Egg-stravaganza to benefit the Long Beach High School band.

There was live music by Phillip Drake, plenty of hot dogs, photos with the Easter Bunny and lots of cute animals like baby rabbits, chicks and ducks as well as alpacas ready to pose and provide slobbery Easter kisses.

“We love to get the community involved, and we like being a part of the merchants here in downtown Long Beach,” said co-owner William Rester. “And, so, we always kind of try to do our part.”

In addition to celebrating Easter, the bakeshop is celebrating its second anniversary in Long Beach.

The owners will soon be opening Dolce Cafe in Gulfport inside the House of Tux.
