BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Another step has been made in the much-anticipated expansion of Margaritaville in Biloxi.
On Wednesday, developers revealed renderings of phases two and three to the city’s development review committee.
There’s a lot of work to be done to have fun.
“We’re going to extend out the same level that the arcade is now 22 feet in the air,” said Cono Caranna with Barrington Development. “We’re going to build back everything that got torn down a few years ago.”
The unveiling is getting people excited, and once the master plan is approved, the thrill ride-filled phase two will begin.
Caranna said it will be sometime after summer.
“The elevated deck will have the rides,” said Caranna. “It will have the 200-foot observation wheel. It’ll have the swingers and the ships and the AeroBar.”
The AeroBar - which allows you to drink while in the air - features a gondola with 16 seats circling a bar. After strapping into those seats, the open-air bar rises 120 feet in the air, providing riders with 360-degree views of the area. According to the company’s website, the gondola is guided by three rails. The ride takes two minutes to go up, five minutes at the top, and then another two minutes to go back down.
“It’s not a thrill ride,” he said. “It’s more of a view ride. There’s a bartender on board with you, so you get a little cocktail when you go for a little spin and you get to look out at everything. Two big things to go high up and look at the Coast and be something we can all look at and be proud of.”
There are currently 10 AeroBars in operation around the world but this will be the first of its kind in the U.S.
Another way guests at Margaritaville can get an amazing view of the scenery is by a giant Ferris Wheel that will be on top of the parking garage.
A Family Swinger ride will also be on top of the parking garage, featuring two rows of swings - an inside row for the little ones and an outer row with adult-sized swings.
To prepare, the north parking lot is now being poured. It will be used when construction begins.
In addition, Caranna said Margaritaville will be tying into the boardwalk as part of Mayor Andrew “FoFo” Gilich’s plan.
Caranna is happy to see the progress.
“We’re real excited about bringing more,” he said. “So, we always want to offer something new. We don’t want to have the same thing every time you come. So, we constantly add new games inside the arcade now and now we get to add something that’s a whole new element.”
Final design revisions are now being made to phase three, which will include a second hotel tower on the west side of the amusement area.
Caranna anticipates that construction to start the first of next year.
