Hancock, Pearl River counties open shelters ahead of potential severe weather

SOUTH MISSISSIPPI (WLOX) - If you’re unsure of the safety of your home during Thursday’s predicted severe weather, you can take shelter in Hancock or Pearl River counties.

The Hancock County Emergency Management Agency is opening a Safe Shelter at the Kiln Shelter located at 18320 Highway 43 and will close at 8:30 p.m.

Pearl River County Emergency Management Director Danny Manley said the county will have two Safe Room Community shelters open Thursday night.

One is located at 810 Highway 11 South in Poplarville, and the other is the Picayune Community Safe Room at 501 Laurel Street. Service animals are permitted, but pets are not allowed.
