MOSS POINT, MS (WLOX) - Big news came out of Tuesday night’s second State of the City in Moss Point. Mayor Mario King announced seven car dealerships are headed for the River City, as well as a Red Roof Inn Plus.
Ford, Lincoln, Chevrolet, Honda, Toyota, Cadillac and Nissan will be planting roots in Moss Point. The mayor outlined a 10 year plan for growth in the city. He said these dealerships will bring in about $1.5 million in the beginning, with an unlimited potential for more. He also said the Red Roof Inn Plus is expected to bring in about $15,000 in tax revenue.
Mayor King’s theme for his second State of the City was growth: where the city is now, where it’s going and how to get there. He said the city is still operating on a lean system.
Moss Point resident Marcia Webb said the education system and curbing crime are her main goals.
“I just like to know first hand what’s going on with the city. I want to hear it from the horse’s mouth," she said of attending the meeting. "Give me a new direction to see where the city’s going, where we came from and what we want to be. Our goals.”
Road projects were another big topic at Tuesday’s meeting. Residents are very interested in what’s happening with infrastructure from drainage to potholes and more.
