BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Mississippi teachers are saying it and we agree. Teaching students how to take and pass too many tests is taking too much class time away from real learning.

Shouldn't learning be the real objective of education?

Classrooms should be a place for our young people to learn, to pick up knowledge that is useful as they advance through life.

We do need some tests. They are good for accountability that learning is happening in the classrooms. But there should not be so many tests that teachers spend the majority of their time teaching students how to take and pass tests.

We agree with the effort in the state legislature to reduce testing, as a way to increase time for more learning.

That’s our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com.
