PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Volunteers with Mississippi Power used Martin Luther Jr. Day to give back to the community.
The company’s Community Connection group visited Our Daily Bread soup kitchen in Pascagoula. A team of more than 25 volunteers helped get the kitchen ready to serve hot meals to its regular patrons.
Volunteers took turns wiping tables, sanitizing the walls, and preparing food for the hungry visitors.
“Our motto is, ‘a day on' instead of a day off, and I think that goes way back to Dr. King,” said Anthony Wilson, President/CEO of Mississippi Power. “He really felt like people should come together to the benefit of those who can’t help themselves.”
Community Connection President Gary Gray says the turnout shows the company’s commitment to service.
“People live in these areas that we live work and serve, and we take pride in giving back into those same areas. Not just a one time thing but throughout the whole year,” said Gray.
Mississippi Power recognized the MLK Day of Service with volunteer projects across the state.
