HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - The Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. holiday is the only federal holiday observed as a national day of service. Some Coast Electric workers did just that, cleaning up debris along Hwy. 603 in the Kiln on a chilly Monday morning.
Workers who spend their time keeping the lights on for their customers say they’re proud to clean up and help their community look a bit better.
“Community service is part of our operating principle. It’s what we do all the time," said Coast Electric spokesperson April Lollar. “But it’s important for us to come out today, especially on this day of service. We’re proud to be in Hancock County, we’re in the Kiln on Hwy 603 doing a highway cleanup, we’re also in Picayune doing a US 11 cleanup.”
Coast Electric employees also took part in a service project at Lynn Meadows Discovery Center in Gulfport.
