MERIDIAN, MS (WLOX) - One Gulf Coast high school theatre department is advancing to the regional competition.

The Ocean Springs High School Theatre Department received one of two Best Production recognitions at this weekend’s Mississippi Theatre Association conference in Meridian. That means the students will travel to the Southeastern Theatre Conference in Knoxville, Tennessee to represent the state.

The competition piece was “The White Snake,” based on an ancient Chinese legend in which a snake spirit transforms herself into a beautiful woman in order to experience the human world.

Oak Grove High School will also compete in SETC to represent Mississippi high schools.
