JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - An Ocean Springs man has been sentenced to 40 years in prison and must now register as a sex offender.

James Allen Stevens, 34, pleaded guilty Friday to 10 counts of touching a child for lustful purposes and 10 counts of exploitation of a child. The crime occurred on or between Sept. 19-21, 2017. Stevens was a family acquaintance of the victims. The Gautier Police Department investigated the case. Stevens also pleaded guilty previously in Harrison County to similar charges.

“I commend the efforts of the Gautier Police Department, who worked in conjunction with other law enforcement agencies to fully investigate this case," said Assistant District Attorney Justin Lovorn. "Through their efforts, we were able to resolve this case without the victims having to suffer the additional trauma of a trial.”

Judge Kathy King Jackson sentenced Stevens to a total of 40 years day for day in prison, followed by 15 years of post-release supervision and to pay a total fine of $105,000 and all costs of court.

“The defendant preyed on these young children as they slept and captured his abuse of them on video," said District Attorney Angel Myers McIlrath. "The depravity of his acts and the danger he presents to the children in our community justifies this 40-year day for day sentence. I’m going to do everything I can within the bounds of the law to keep our kids safe and get justice for the abused.”
