HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - New details have been released surrounding the October death of a two-month-old in Harrison County.
A preliminary hearing was held in the case Byron Allen Ellison on the charge of second-degree murder in the death of his son, Colton Wyatt Ellison.
Ellison was originally arrested Oct. 15, 2018, on a charge of felony child abuse. After an autopsy ruled the baby’s death as a homicide, Ellison’s charge was upgraded in November.
Court documents from county prosecutor Herman Cox stated Ellison engaged in slamming Colton into his shoulder, causing brain hemorrhaging.
Harrison County sheriff’s deputies, along with American Medical Response and Fire Resuce, responded to the home on Calcutta Drive in Gulfport for an infant who was not breathing. Colton’s mother was performing CPR on the infant when deputies arrived. Colton was taken to Garden Park Medical Center, where it was determined that Colton sustained multiple brain bleeds.
Colton was airlifted to Oschner Children’s Hospital in New Orleans, while Ellison and the mother both traveled to the Harrison County Sheriff’s Office. After two examinations, Colton was declared brain dead on Oct. 18.
Ellison remains in custody on a $1 million bond,
