BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - The Mississippi Legislature convenes in a few weeks for its 2019 session. 2019 is also election year for the entire State House and State Senate and all the top state officials including: Governor, Lt. Governor, Secretary of State, Attorney General, Auditor, Treasurer, Insurance and Agriculture Commissioners.

It could be easy for re-election concerns to overshadow any real legislative work at the state capital in 2019. The expectation is for lawmakers to tackle little that could be controversial in their bids for re-election and spend more time touting to the voters what they have already done.

But there is always much to do in Mississippi to improve education, infrastructure and draw companies with well-paying jobs to our state. We hope our lawmakers will work hard to continue to improve Mississippi next year and not just work hard to get re-elected.
