BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Health care in Mississippi is getting better for those who can least afford medical bills.
Nearly 675,000, or one in five, Mississippians are covered by Medicaid, the state and federal health insurance program for the needy.
Right now, many are limited to 12 doctor’s office visits per year. The number goes to 16 beginning Jan. 1. Nursing home patients already get 36 visits, and those in managed care don’t have a limit.
Lawmakers increased the medical access for the rest, in hopes that patients would seek preventative health care rather than waiting for medical attention after more serious and more expensive conditions develop.
We agree with this effort to improve health care for our most needy citizens. That’s our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to firstname.lastname@example.org.
