JACKSON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Traffic is backed up on Interstate 10 in Jackson County as officials respond to a crash Thursday afternoon.
The crash involved five vehicles and happened on the Pascagoula River bridge at mile marker 64.
According to Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Chase Elkins, an 18-wheeler in the right lane of the westbound lane slowed for an unknown reason, causing three vehicles in the left lane to slow as well.
A second 18-wheeler was unable to slow down, went in between the two lanes and hit the three cars and other 18-wheeler.
Elkins said there is a small diesel leak, and the Mississippi Department of Transportation is spreading sand on the fuel.
Emergency officials are blocking traffic at this time as they respond to the incident.
