State Champs

It's rare for two coast basketball teams to be crowned the best in their division. But that's exactly what happened this past weekend when Pass Christian captured the 3A title and Biloxi won the 5A division.

This is the first time in Pass Christian's school history that the team has won a state basketball title. In addition, just a few years ago, following Hurricane Katrina the coach of the team, Buddy Kennedy, did not know if enough players would be left to field a team.

But since that time, the team has jelled as a unit and proved it is the best in the 3-A Division. Also the shot Blake Evans sunk, with just seconds to go to beat Raymond 52-50, will be a part of Pass Christian history for years to come.

For the Biloxi Indians they had to clinch the state title in overtime. This is the first time the Indians have claimed the golden basketball since 2004. Beating Provine 68-63.

We should be proud of both of these teams who have demonstrated great team work. Also both of these team have demonstrated that you never give up.  Even though you may be behind, you still battle with all of your energy. Congratulations to the Pass Christian Pirates and Biloxi Indians for giving us all something we can be proud of.

That's our opinion, we would like to hear yours. Email your thoughts to editorials@wlox.com, or post your comments below.
