GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - A group of South Mississippi neighbors are continuing to be proactive when it comes to rebuilding.
For more than three years, The Second Street Neighborhood Lunch Bunch has committed to rebuilding the community.
It was a community effort to rebuild Second Street Park, now three years later, the bond formed during that rebuilding process remains in tact.
"We started having pot luck lunches because some people were cleaning up, some people were in houses and some people just wanted to come back to the neighborhood," said Libby Milner-Roland.
Roland is a member of the Second Street Neighborhood Lunch Bunch. The group is committed to its community, a community centered around this park.
"The city does a lot of maintenance buts it's good to have the community prospective to get every to do it because it builds pride in your community and it beautifies the park," said Michael Hewes.
Members of Lunch Bunch don't mind putting forth the extra effort to help maintain the park. They've planted, pruned, and posted permanent markers throughout the park.
Sunday afternoon, members of the Second Street Lunch Bunch came of with a wish list of things they hope to bring to the park. The group hopes to use money raised to implement those ideas.
