PASS CHRISTIAN, MS (WLOX) - A Pass Christian Church says it has managed to build a one million dollar sanctuary and not owe one penny on it. On Sunday, First Baptist Church in Pass Christian held a dedication ceremony for the new sanctuary that replaces the one lost in Katrina.

The pastor says building materials alone were about $500,000, yet the church doesn't have any debt. It is all because of the generosity of donors and volunteers who did the labor for free.

Rev. Bill Smith said, "The only money that we asked for was from the Bush-Clinton fund. We received $35,000 from that, but that was only a small amount of the cost of building. We've had people to show up to just offer. We didn't write any letters requesting money or donations, and all has been freely given."

Reverend Smith says many of the volunteers who helped build were church groups from many different denominations.
