BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (WLOX) - It was Ash Wednesday 1989 when Eddie Favre, City Clerk for Bay St. Louis, decided to become Mayor Favre. But, after five terms, Favre's ready for someone else to take over the title.

"This last term has really taken its toll. Like so many who've suffered and continue to suffer from the storm, I kind of need a little break right now," Favre said.

Soon, he'll be hearing a title he hasn't heard too often over the years. Pa-Pa.

"I think the best thing is just to take a little break and spend time with my grandbabies and my family who, unfortunately, have been neglected for so long," Favre said.

Favre said he's pleased he will hand the new mayor nearly $100 million worth of projects.  He has some advice for the five men already looking to take his seat.

"If they're running to do what's best for the city and they intend to do what's best for the city, they'll keep the folks that are here and let them continue doing the job that's been done," Favre said.

When it comes to the people picking the right man to take his job, he said he's confident in the outcome.

"You've got to trust the people to make the right decision, and I do. I have, I always have.  The right person will be sitting here for the next four years.
