Spraggins: Gulfport mayoral race "entirely different" without Warr

By WLOX Staff

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - Gulfport mayoral candidate Joe Spraggins told WLOX News Wednesday that it will now be "an entirely different race." The Republican candidate was responding to the news that Mayor Brent Warr will not seek re-election, and longtime banker George Schloegel is now a candidate.

We spoke with the retired general and former Harrison County Civil Defense Director at the Gulf Coast Business Council's meeting.

"Obviously, I have to change my pattern and see what I'm doing. I've got to run against George Schloegel now and I think we'll keep it a good, clean race. I think things will go good. We have different ideas, so I think it will be an entirely different race and the people of the City of Gulfport will have a choice," Spraggins said.

Spraggins said he believes there will be "clear distinctions" between himself and George Schloegel. He said he'll work hard for "grass roots support" among Gulfport voters.
