BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - South Mississippi is inching closer to realizing a dream. Work continues on the Infinity Science and Education Center in Hancock County.

Former Apollo 13 astronaut Fred Haise is working to raise money from the private sector.

"To build the building, we needed $30 million. We're within $4 million of meeting that goal," Haise said.

Haise spoke to the Biloxi Businessmen's Association Thursday and accepted a check from the group.

The state of the art facility will give visitors an interactive advantage featuring the wonders of earth, space and the oceans.

Infinity is being built on more than 200 acres just west of the Mississippi Welcome Center on Interstate 10 and is slated to open in 2010.
