BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - South Mississippi casinos got 2009 off on the wrong foot.

According to the latest report from the Mississippi State Tax Commission, the 11 casinos grossed $99.1 million in January. That was down seven percentage points compared to January, 2008. It was also the fifth consecutive month that coast casino revenues plunged below their previous year's total.

Statewide, the casino industry is in a deeper funk. Revenues were off more than $3 million last month. January became the seventh straight month with declining gaming revenues at Mississippi casinos.
