Katrina related road repairs begin Monday in Ocean Springs

OCEAN SPRINGS, MS (WLOX) - Ocean Springs residents should expect to see some major changes in their roadways next week. Eight different Katrina-damaged roads will be repaired, starting Monday.

The money to pay for the work comes from a long-awaited federal grant. Segments of Front Beach Drive, Calhoun, Holcomb, Halstead, East Beach Drive, Government Street, and Hanshaw Road will all be affected.

Public works officials are urging drivers to take alternate routes around the construction areas. The good news is they don't expect the work to take very long.

"We have a plan to just minimize the impact as best we can. It's going to be disruptive, but it's been well-planned. And if the public will just bear with us, we expect this project will be eight to ten working days. We expect it to be, when it's said and done, much, much better than what we had," Public Works Director Andre Kaufman said.

Mail and garbage collection services are not expected to be impacted by the roadwork.
