JACKSON, MS (WLOX) - Pascagoula school officials scored a big win in the state Senate Tuesday. The Senate Finance committee passed a law to repeal the law on how taxes from Chevron's LNG facility will be distributed.
A law passed in 2007 called for school taxes on the new Chevron project to be shared by all school districts in Jackson County.
Pascagoula Superintendent Wayne Rodolfich says the district would lose 50 percent of its revenue to other districts if the 2007 law stands.
Senator Tommy Moffatt introduced the bill to keep all the tax money for Pascagoula schools. The bill now goes to the full Senate for consideration.
The Pascagoula School District also has a lawsuit pending challenging the redistribution of the Chevron taxes.
