Super Bowl will air in Jackson County

PASCAGOULA, MS (WLOX) - Football fans in Jackson County will be able to enjoy the Super Bowl at home this weekend.

Pascagoula Mayor Matthew Avara announced Friday night that Cable One and Newport Broadcasting have reached an agreement to continue broadcasting WPMI-TV to customers in Jackson County. WPMI is the NBC affiliate for Cable One customers in Jackson County.

The cable company and the Newport Broadcasting have been negotiating retransmission fees. The agreement between the two was set to expire Saturday, threatening to leave sports fans in the dark on one of the biggest game days of the year.

But the negotiations aren't over just yet. The new agreement between Cable One and WPMI's parent company only runs through Wednesday, February 4th.
