JACKSON, MS - Steven Joseph Christopher was arrested by agents of the United States Secret Service Friday for making threats against President-Elect Barack Obama, U.S. Attorney Dunn Lampton announced Friday.
Christopher, who is from Wisconsin, was arrested in Brookhaven, Mississippi. Christopher made threats against President-Elect Barack Obama on an internet chat forum on January 11, 15 and 16, 2009.
According to an Affidavit filed by Special Agent Kelly Adcox with the United States Secret Service, Christopher posted the following on the website www.alien-earth.org on January 11, 2009:

Christopher was arrested without incident by agents of the U.S. Secret Service and members of the Lincoln County, Mississippi Sheriff's Department and agents of the Mississippi Bureau of Investigation pursuant to a criminal complaint charging Christopher with a violation of Title 18, United States Code, Section 871 which makes it a crime for anyone to threaten to kill the President-Elect of the United States.
The maximum penalty for this offense is 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
U.S. Attorney Lampton said, "Threats against the President-Elect will be taken very seriously. Use of internet chat rooms to express those threats is as much a crime as uttering the words. Threats of this nature will be pursued swiftly and vigorously."
