A CSX freight train from Mobile to New Orleans, derailed at about four o'clock Sunday afternoon in Waveland.
24 cars jumped the tracks at the intersection near Nichols and Central Avenues.
Eleven of the 24 cars were tanker cars. Although, all the cars were empty, Hazmat engineers were called out because of possible toxic residue.
There were no injuries or fatalities, and no evacuation was ordered. However, a few folks left their homes voluntarily.
Waveland Mayor Tommy Longo said cleanup began Sunday night and should be completed by Monday afternoon.
The cause of the derailment is under investigation.
