Two Carriere men killed in Hwy 90 accident

HANCOCK COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Two Pearl River County men died in a head-on collision Monday morning in Hancock County. Two other people were injured. It happened in Hancock County just west of Waveland around 12:30am.

Johnny Poulos with the Mississippi Highway Patrol told WLOX News that the two people who died were both in a pick-up truck headed east in the west bound lane.

The driver was identified as 40-year-old Kenneth Smith. His passenger was 58-year-old Mike Penton. Penton was found pinned under the truck after it caught fire. Both men are from Carriere.

The two people in the other truck were from Louisiana. They were taken to Hancock Medical for treatment, but their injuries were not life threatening.

Weather conditions during that time included heavy fog but, there's no official word yet on whether fog was a factor. The Highway Patrol is investigating.
