Suicide note found in cell where inmate reportedly hung himself

GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - WLOX News has found out a bit more information about the 17 year old who reportedly hung himself in a Harrison County jail cell.

Sheriff Melvin Brisolara said a suicide note addressed to James Mack Allen's father was found in the victim's pocket. And Coroner Gary Hargrove said that note, plus an autopsy completed Friday morning confirmed that Allen hung himself. His official cause of death was asphyxia due to self induced hanging.

The teenager was arrested on Christmas Eve on a vehicle burglary charge. Jailers put him on a suicide watch. Yet, 17 minutes after they checked on him, they said Allen used a bed sheet to take his own life.
