GULFPORT, MS (WLOX) - On the first day of their winter break, some South Mississippi children found themselves back in school.
Saturday, Pass Road Elementary held its first ever video game tournament. Several children came out to play some of the newest games on the market. Organizers say it's one of the few times kids will be able to hit the games before they hit the books.
"We decided that because of the economy right now, we figured that a lot of of students wouldn't be going on vacations a lot," said principal Kenny Hudson.
"They are playing Guitar Hero Three and we have the WII bowling going on, PS2, Xboxes just a bunch of games that they can play on a Saturday on their Christmas vacation," said Nathan Streetman, owner of Play-N-Trade.
Organizers are already planning the next video game tournament which will be district-wide.
