Casino Magic Celebrates 10 Years In Hancock County

Carol Bogolin remembers her first day on the job as a dealer at Casino Magic Bay St. Louis. "My hands were shaking," the former high school teacher said. "I didn't look at a face. All I looked at were the hands on the table."

Ten years later, a much more relaxed Bogolin is now a floor supervisor. So she's in charge of the games she once dealt.

"This is the first job I've been in the same place for 10 years. And it absolutely amazes me that I'm still here," Bogolin said. "I've grown. And I just love talking with the people."

Casino Magic Bay St. Louis started in 1992 with a casino barge and nothing else. Now it has a golf course, an RV park and two hotels. The next big change is a name change. You see, Casino Magic Bay St. Louis's parent company is buying the Hollywood Casinos group. So once the deal is finalized, the Hollywood logo will be splattered all over Hancock County's first casino resort.

"I think it will be a sad day if they change the name," former Casino Magic owner Marlin Torguson said.

Torguson still has an office in Bay St. Louis. It has pictures from the September 30, 1992 opening. Torguson said he's proud of what his company did for Mississippi's casino industry.

"I think it's got a long way to go," he said. "It's going to grow. It's going to grow bigger and better."

Current Casino Magic general manager Todd Raziano agreed.

"I tell you, 10 years from now, it's going to be remarkable to see where we go from here."

Carol Bogolin said 10 years from now, she'll probably be retired. But she'll be at home with fond memories of her 10th anniversary at Casino Magic.
