BAY ST. LOUIS, MS (AP) - The Stennis Space Center in Hancock County will test the engines for the Taurus II rocket. The Taurus II rocket's first mission is scheduled in 2010. It will be the launch vehicle for a cargo delivery demonstration mission to the International Space Station.
Stennis engineers will have less than a year to modify a test stand to accommodate the new engine, now being developed at Orbital Sciences Corporation in Dulles, Va. Testing will be the engine will done in two stages. Initially, engineers then will test the engine to determine whether it meets the contractor's requirements. The second phase's acceptance test will take place in late summer 2009.
