South Mississippi blanketed with snow

JACKSON, MS (AP) - The steady march of sleet and snow into area of Mississippi has led to a number of closings, including more than a dozen school districts. In addition, events like Thursday's Bowl Luncheon scheduled at the University of Southern Mississippi was postponed. Among districts closing Thursday were those in Franklin, Jefferson Davis, Jones, Kemper, Lamar, Lincoln, Adams, Newton, Simpson, Smith, Walthall and Wilkinson counties. The Hattiesburg School District also closed for the day and more closings were anticipated.

The wintry weather was expected to move east Thursday afternoon after dumping as much as three inches of snow in southern and central Mississippi, with much improved conditions on Friday.
