HARRISON COUNTY, MS (WLOX) - Donna Schurr and her friend of more than 20 years, Dolores McClearean are more like family than friends.
"All of my people have passed away, so Delores has become my adopted mother," says Schurr.
That's why Donna Schurr says she's has to find a way to help her 78-year-old friend. Schurr wants to move McClearan's trailer from Saucier onto her property, so she can help take care of her.
"She lives by herself, and she doesn't have any family," says Schurr.
She says her elderly friend recently fell and has been in re-hab for the past three weeks. Dolores has a condition called Lymphadema. Whenever she suffers an injury affecting the lymphatic system, she has side effects like severe swelling. It can result in uncontrolled infection to the injured body part.
"I don't want her to get hurt again and be left on the floor until someone can come see about her," says Schurr.
But, to get Delores moved, she and her husband need some help.
"She (Dolores) needs manpower. She needs someone who can move that trailer from Pete Hickman Road in Saucier, pull it into this lot, set it up and tie it down...so she can actually move in and live," says Schurr.
Schurr says under her care and supervision, she can help Delores get back to living a more active life.
"She has a prison ministry she's been doing for 20 years. She's got a bible study she's been doing for 20 years. She's very active in the local church, and that's her social life," says Schurr.
Schurr says getting Delores moved onto her property would be the best gift she could give her friend this Christmas.
"I would be ecstatic. It would just be the Lord's blessing," Schurr said.
