BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - Business owners in one South Mississippi plaza are hoping they will cash in on some of this year's holiday shopping. Edgewater Village will house several new businesses over the coming weeks.
This time last year, shopping and dining at Edgewater Village was very different. There were only a few options at the well-known strip mall. Now, things look a lot different.
"We know that once new businesses actually open, they will draw more people to this location," said Andrea Davis.
Charlton and Andrea Davis are the newest tenants of Edgewater Village.
"We sat down and decided, we need to start a business but what were we going to do," said Andrea Davis.
After doing their homework, the couple decided to open a Subway restaurant.
"People today are health conscious for one, and once you become health conscious you have to eat healthy, work out and live better," said Charlton Davis.
Charlton has lived on the coast for more than a decade. He says he remembers what the plaza looked like before August of 2005.
"Very busy, very prominent. It was a great cornerstone for the beach area for Biloxi as a whole with the mall being across the street," Davis said.
Now the young business owners hope the influx of new shops and restaurants will bring more dollars to the beach front strip mall.
"We needed business. We needed restaurants. We need more businesses to come back after the storm to help the community grow and to help the coast as a whole get back on the map after Hurricane Katrina," Charlton said.
