Gautier woman dead after I-10 crash

GAUTIER, MS (WLOX) - A Gautier woman is dead after a car crash around 3:00 Sunday morning. The Mississippi Highway Patrol is investigating why 28-year-old Varshander Washington was driving westbound in the eastbound lane of I-10, near the Gautier exit.

Washington's Ford Escort hit a Dodge Charger driven by Naomi Payton. Payton and her husband, Antonio, who was a passenger in the Charger survived the crash.

Both were taken to Singing River Hospital with serious injuries.

The Highway Patrol is investigating what happened when a third vehicle, a van, became involved in the wreck following the initial crash.

The van's driver was not injured.
