Waveland Officers, Other Men Found Not Guilty Of Charges

Six Hancock County men, including three Waveland police officers, have been found not guilty of charges stemming from a summer bar fight. Justice Court Judge Ricky Adam listened to nearly four hours of testimony Tuesday before making his ruling.

The charges were filed after two altercations June 29 at the Brass Anchor lounge. Russell Jordan, Samuel Rush and Doyle Dahl filed misdemeanor simple assault charges against the officers, Bobby Gavagnie, Ronald Storey and Bill Roessling. Officer Elfren Acosta had been included in the complaint but his case was dismissed by the court for lack of evidence.

The officers filed the same charges against Jordan, Rush and Dahl. The three men testified on Tuesday that the Waveland officers started both fights.

The police officers told a different story. Gavagnie, Storey and Roessling said they were having a good time at the bar when an unidentified man bit Jordan on the arm. That's when Jordan started throwing punches, the officers said.
