BILOXI, MS (WLOX) - It's called Kingdom Salon and Barbers.

"Our motto here is to look your best, feel your best and be blessed," says Pastor of Abundant Life Evangelistic Center Jason Johnson.

Rev. Johnson owns the new salon and barber shop. He hopes the shop will provide new opportunities for people in the community.

"I felt like this was on opportunity to provide jobs. With the economy the way it is now, we still have the faith to do something positive so here we are," Johnson says.

But, getting the building to this point was a long nine month journey.

"It had a terrible smell, a terrible look, and basically, we worked hard. And now we're open."

The shop needs four more stylists, two barbers and at least 3 nail technicians. Johnson says it's important to make the shop a place where everyone feels welcome.

"We want this shop to be a diverse shop. That's the goal, that everybody can come."

Ultimately, Johnson hopes the shop will help revitalize the community by providing hope through new opportunities and services.

"My vision is to bring life to the city."

Throughout the day, the church also gave out 500 turkeys across the street at the future site of its family life center. The shop is open from 7am to 7pm. People interested in applying can call the Abundant Life Evangelistic Center.
