D'IBERVILLE, MS (WLOX) - The City of D'Iberville is fired-up with football fever. Friday night the D'Iberville Warriors take their undefeated record to Northeast Jones for a state playoff showdown.
If enthusiasm is any indicator, they've got more than enough support to bring home another victory.
"Let's go Warriors!" is the cry that echoed off the gymnasium walls, as a first period pep rally builds excitement for D'Iberville's "Road Warriors."
"We are definitely proud. We wish a few more from the coast would be still playing. But we're happy we're the ones still at it," said defensive coach Wayne Whitehead.
"All for Warriors, stand up and lean," screamed the dance team members.
"We have to stick together. That's all we have to do. It's a teamwork thing. We gotta come together and play as one," said fullback Jeremy Thomas.
D'Iberville teachers formed an "old school" team of do-rags and leather jackets.
They danced for the students as "Bad to the Bone" and then "Born to be Wild" cranked through the loud speakers.
"Northeast Jones is a long way away. We need you all to come out and support us. We can't do this without you all," screamed one of the players, as the students cheered.
Dancers and cheerleaders and fans are ready to do their part. The Road Warriors can expect solid support for the only coast football team still standing in the state playoffs.
"Kind of puts all the weight on us, but we're pretty excited to go up there and come home with a win," said player John Peranich.
"I think we've probably got some tailgating up there already. They're fired up and like to have a good time. You know the crowd is definitely going to be big. And hopefully, we'll have more there than they do," said Coach Whitehead.
